The History of CFS

Claridge Funeral Service is owned and run by Mary, Richard and Daniel Claridge. Longstanding members of the community, the Claridge family have taken part in community events, fundraising and provided employment for the people of Marlborough.

Claridge Funeral Service was set up by Daniel, who started learning his trade in the funeral industry at the age of 13 when working for the local funeral service. Upon leaving school, Daniel joined the Salisbury College of Funeral Sciences and it was here that he learned the basics of the funeral industry, progressing through his studies to become the youngest qualified funeral director in the country, aged 18.

Daniel started Claridge Funeral Service with the express intention of providing personal and respectful funerals for people being laid to rest. From the minute details of each ceremony to the coffin for the deceased’s final resting place, every aspect of the funeral service is catered to in accordance with your exact wishes.

Our services are centred around you and the person who has passed; we’re always available to help with any enquiries or support you may need during such a difficult time, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us today.

Daniel Claridge

Daniel started his career in funerals from an early age, initially cleaning the funeral vehicles for a local funeral director. Daniel's interest developed into adult hood and he became the youngest qualified funeral director at the time when he was just 18. Daniel studied at the Salisbury College of Funeral Sciences and has a diploma from the National Association of Funeral Directors, of which Claridge’s is now part of. Daniel has a passion for funerals, as he states, “It’s the last thing you can do for someone and there is only one chance to get it right”.

Daniel also dedicates his time to the community first responder scheme run by the local ambulance service. This involves being on call for people in the local community, to ensure they get immediate first aid whilst an ambulance is dispatched to them. This stems from his interest in emergency care, which he has seemingly inherited from both his parents who were paramedics in Marlborough for many years.

Daniel has a passion for independent business as he enjoys their personal and often superior services, and can be seen in many of the shops, pubs and restaurants in Wiltshire, with his dog Toby – a rescued Beagle from the Dogs Trust.

Mary Claridge

Mary has been a nurse and a paramedic for the majority of her career, but developed an interest in the funeral sector when she worked part time for a funeral director alongside her ambulance endeavours.

Mary is very proud of Daniel's achievements and high standards of care, so when the opportunity came to provide a family run funeral directors for Marlborough, Mary was really excited.

Mary is usually in the office day to day and enjoys the daily interactions with clients. Mary’s role is to complete the daily running tasks and administrative errands that keep a funeral director’s going.

Mary enjoys providing for her community and runs a charity car boot sale every year on Marlborough’s common. When Mary isn’t immersing herself in community projects, she can be seen sitting in the garden with a large glass of pinot grigio!

Richard Claridge

Richard plays an active role in the administration of the business. Richard worked for many years on the ambulance service front line as a paramedic, ending up in operational managerial and training roles before working for the department of health on their national radio project team.

Richard is a vintage car enthusiast and has his own 1985 Range Rover ambulance, originally based in Wiltshire. Richard takes his ambulance to local shows in Wiltshire so others can share in his passion.

Richard is a keen dog lover and has always had dogs since childhood. He and Mary currently have two rescued cocker-spaniels which they enjoy taking on long walks.

Our recent experience of engaging Daniel Claridge funeral services was nothing less than exceptional. Throughout this difficult and emotional time, all of the team were kind, supportive and thoroughly fantastic. Every detail, from the moment they took dad into their care, to presenting us with dad’s ashes was attended to and all involved were patient and thoughtful. Dad had a beautiful funeral and everything we wanted was facilitated without question and with such dignity. My family’s heartfelt thanks are sent to all of the team, we will remain forever grateful to all at Claridge Funeral Services.

Everything that you did to assist with Jane’s funeral went so smoothly, so professionally, that we couldn’t have possibly hoped for any more. From that first contact, right through the discussions about the arrangements, and to the service itself, everything went like clockwork. Quiet, friendly - but not too familiar – just the right amount of care, consideration, empathy, sympathy and respect for all involved. Thank you for the bottom of all of our hearts. You should be rightly proud of everything that you do and everything that you have done for us.

Claridge Funeral Service could not have done a more professional and personal service for my dear late Mother if they had tried. She herself would have been overjoyed with the way everything was organised and presented. Everything was dealt with promptly and the various personal touches which they added into the service was beyond expectations. I can not recommend them highly enough in every aspect. Thank you once again, our kindest gratitude and eternal appreciation. Thank You.
